Project 1 - La Nina House
The primary objective of this particular project was to design a sustainableresidential dwelling to accomodate a family of 5 with an additional guest room.
The site was nestled atop a cliff on the coastline of Newcastle. Due to its location on the edge of a cliff the site was vulnerably exposed to all harsh elements of Mother Nature including, wind, rain, and above all sea spray.
The proposed site possesses emotive historical aspects with the sites location lying adjacent to Shepherds Hill Fort, an army shelter used by Australian soldiers during WW2.
My conceptual idea was derived through Shepherds Hill Fort. Similar to the way soldiers used the fort as protection, I proposed to conceptually design a fort-like structure protecting the residents from the harsh elements of nature.
